On March 30, 2014, I delivered a performative lecture, “Quality Control,” as part of the dialogues section of “Ir para volver,” the twelfth Bienal de Cuenca, which was curated by Manuela Moscoso. The lecture was part of a roundtable called Of Men and Measure, which was organized by Sarah Demeuse and included Fernanda Laguna. It tracked the history of standardization and the way in which it has been employed as “government from a distance,” especially in the twentieth century through the International Organization for Standardization.
